The excitement of putting a new site up is over,and then the inevitable question...How to get visitors to check it out?..I thought that it was all over..on the net..and the spiders will crawl all over you .. but...where's the traffic ?
The next stage is trying to be systematic about the whole procedure.
1) Submit by hand to all the major search engines and directories that one can.
2) Tell a few friends to pass the message on down the line. ( In the hope that something will work !)
3) Submit the site to all the relevant webmaster related directories. ( The first stage of desperation is slowly creeping in now...as I have just seen my hit counter a couple of minutes ago )
4) Possibly try to inflate your hit counter ( to inflate your demoralised ego as well ) with a few exchange hit programs..like TrafficG or ClickThru...to see your counter up again...but to no real targeted traffic for your site.
5) Try and take part in a banner exchange program...and then give up after seeing that you only got one hit from a thousand or so of your banner's exposure. ( Why did I waste all that time trying to make a banner in the first place? )
6) Desperation...OK...what do I do ? FFA sites ?? Waste of time. Spam the engines ?? Definitely not !! Hey..I'm a straight guy..want to do everything in the correct way ! Maybe think of something new tomorrow...Must persevere.
7) So it's back to square one...hey..do pay for click directories work ? OK.. let's give that a shot. Well...still not satisfied.
8) OK.. last resort..let's check out these guys known as the Kings in the game..you guessed it..THE Search engine specialists.
9) So my next few days goes in a thorough investigation of these great guys..who promise a lot of promises...Will get you to the top..Will make sure you remain there...no spam...only cloaking..special key words that only we know about..see our client testimonials..WE are the Greatest !!! OK guys..I humbly bow down before thee..please tell me how to get to the top ?? At this point I happen to come accross the small print. HOW MUCH ?? 1K, 2K, 3K, 4K,...?? Hey guys...I'm out of here !
Conclusion :
We ain't no Microsoft or Oracle to pay you guys the BIG bucks to do this,so what do we small, humble, honest, dejected souls do ?? We just cannot keep away from this addictive keyboard and screen...and in the process...have to have at least a couple of sites up and running ( that costs as well ) just to feel that we belong..have to do something !!
So that's it guys .. end of the day I'm still at square two...trying hard to make it to three...still..somehow time has passed and the hits are gradually improving, so let's live in hope..keep persevering..and maybe some day I will have to change my name to Flood Gates !!
